Welcome to my blog!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I believe that everyone can have a beautiful home without spending a fortune! One of my favorite things to do is find creative ways to re-purpose things I already have on hand, or have picked up at yard sales and thrift stores. Join me as I share with you some of my favorite ideas for crafting and decorating, as well as travel adventures, and fun things that I pick up on my treasure hunts! Much of my work is influenced by my love all things French, nature, and of course shabby chic! I have gotten so many creative ideas from you very talented bloggers out there, and I hope that I can be an inspiration to you as well!

From Shabby to Chic, A Mini Makeover of Our New Master Bath

Hello Ladies, and Happy Sunday!  I hope that you are having a great weekend.
Today I thought I'd take a little break from unpacking and organizing (I think I've already unpacked about a kajillion boxes!  Ok, I know "kajillion" really isn't a number, but it sounds good, doesn't it? And it feels like a kajillion!) and show you the much needed little face lift we gave to the master bath of our new house here in Washington State.
Ok, I will start by giving you a little teaser photo!  Let me back up a bit by telling you just how hideously ugly  challenged this bathroom was!  Ok, are you ready for the before shot?!
Yes, this is what I was dealing with, ladies!  Can you say "1970's"???  Horrible vinyl wall paper, cheap-o looking mirrors, and, the piece de la resistance, those gorgeous light fixtures!!!!  What a nightmare!
On the plus side, the room did have some things going for it, such as a nice big vanity area and two sinks.  At our house in Michigan, hubby and I had to fight over one sink and a very small vanity area!  There also is a nice sky light which lets in lots of sun, as well as alot of storate space, again, something our bathroom back at home was lacking in.
Even though we will only be living here for a year or so, I at least wanted it to feel liveable!  As is, this was a room that I certainly didn't want to step foot in!  Luckily, the owners said that we could take down the wall paper and paint (yeah!).  So, a few days before we moved in, I was stripping paper (fortunately it came down in sheets), and painting.  The only thing with the wall paper was that as I removed it, it left a fuzzy, cottony like residue on the walls, which meant that we had to sand all of the walls before priming and painting!  Labor intensive for sure, but so worth it!  And, I could hardly wait for hubby to take down those God awful lights!!!
As soon as I saw those mirrors, I knew exactly what I had to do:  break out my trusty ol' Heirloom White spray paint!  But first, I had to clean 30 plus years of acumulated dirt off from the frames (I told you this place was filthy!).  The frames were so tacky looking, I thought for sure they were plastic!  Come to find out, they are actually made of heavy wood.

Aaaah!  What a difference paint makes, don't you think?  We found some inexpensive light fixtures in brushed nickle at the Home Depot, and we are amazed at the transformation!
My mini chandelier from Michigan seems right at home here!
Of course I had to add a touch of Parisian chic to the room as well!
Here's another look, and one last close up of the mirrors.  I am so happy with how this mini makeover turned out!  Now I actually like going in the room!
Well, now it's back to unpacking and organizing for me.  I'll be on here later today to see what all of you oh so talented ladies have been up to!

Donna, this is such a huge improvement! Love the light fixtures and the painted mirror frames. You're lucky the bathroom has a window and storage space. That should make things more manageable there.

I've been wishing for a bathroom update and had been thinking of painting our baths. The two upstairs are painted exactly the same color....med/dark green and the light fixtures need replacing. Hmmm.

Have a great week and remember, the boxes WILL be empty soon!

Love, Karen

Wow, what a great transformation. I can see why you didn't want to go in the room before with the wallpaper and the mirrors, you are right they scream 70's to me too. The chandelier is a perfect touch. Makes me want to do a bit more decorating in my bathroom!

What a HUGE change. You are definitely putting your own lovely touch on the house. That bathroom is a completely different space now. Nicely done.

I am shocked that you didn't go with that leafy wall paper! So vintage! LOL I loved the mirrors either way. Love the detail in there. Where's your cottage strips? That would look so cute in here!
Why on earth would your need hollywood lighting with a sky light in there? Crazy people. I love the sky light in our bathroom. It's really cool going to the bathroom in the middle of night when it's lightening!
I do like the curtains. I see you have kept them,at least for now.
Well, your break time is over, so get back at it and show us some more!
Hugs- Tete

I love the mirrors and how you added the little chandy in the middle of them. I've been reading a few of your back posts and Montana is a beautiful state! Glad you are moved in and just take one day at a time for the unpacking:)

I'm still unpacking too..quite a challenge-less room here..but at least I'll have a patio and lots and lots of planters here! Less than a block from the beach, too!
The most creative thing I've done since moving a couple of days ago is to curse the cable guy-not the installer, the inevitable call to "Customer Service" (what an oxymoron!)
Creativity? Maybe down the road, right now, just trying to survive my trek through the cardboard jungle!

Paint, or colors to be exact, can be powerful. Since bathrooms are often smaller compared to other rooms in a house, the color of paint is more apparent. Indeed, picking the right shade and color can help give a bathroom a spa-like or chic look. Yours looks lovely, by the way!
