Most of the cards are from the early 1940's thru the 1950's. Here are a few of my favorites.
I really love all of the pretty floral cards! I am trying so hard not to get spring fever!!
Look at the inside of the above one on the right. I think it's just charming! Hard to believe these were going to get tossed out!!
This next card below has a rather funny sense of humor (that I am afraid I don't get!!).
Kind of silly, but cute! Notice the date? 1943!
It seems like back then, they made the inside of the cards as pretty as the outside!
I was especially excited to discover this postcard of Casa Loma, in Toronto. The first long distance trip hubby and I took together in his airplane was to Toronto almost 11 years ago, and we have many great memories of visiting this castle!
This postcard was never sent, so there is no postmark to determine its' age. But, note the 4 cent postage stamp!
I think I will have to do something special with this postcard!
Also in the bunch were some pretty vintage Valentine's Day cards, that I will save to show you another time! Have a great weekend, and keep warm and cozy!
Donna, these are so sweet! Thank you so much for popping by my Blog!

Donna- great save! The things people throw away! I think it was you who asked how to clean paper items. So here is my recipe. I have a gallon bucket that I use all the time, so I fill it half full. Then I add one capful of bleach and 2 drops of dawn. Use a cloth with a low nap, like t-shirt or underwear. Ring the water out very well so it's only damp. You can only do a couple of light passes at a time. Then you let them dry flat and go over again if you have to.
ReplyDeleteThe smell is from either moth balls or mold.
The bleach kills mold spores and the dawn will cut the grease left by fingers.
You can do any letters, cards, postcards, and old photos with this.
DO NOT do this on newer photos- color pics from the 70's on up.
Do front and back.
If you still have a smell, after they are all dried well, spray a bounty paper towel with febreeze and tuck it in a card board box with a lid, like a shoe box, with the paper items for a few days.
The box has to breathe.
I also use this for slightly soiled books.
Hope this helps.
Hugs- Tete
What beautiful cards, Donna! They've fallen into the right hands, now. What a neat castle you got to visit, too. That's definitely a card for a special purpose. Happy crafting and stay warm!

What lovely cards. I especially love the ones with flowers. We've been under lake effect snow storms all day and it's terribly cold. It's definitely a good day for crafting!
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday!
How cool is that? Love those cards and I know you'll do something beautiful with them...I am with you on the cold, agh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these Donna! They are pretty and facinating...
ReplyDeleteI can't believe someone considered throwing those away! Their loss ... your gain! They're lovely! I agree, the Casa Loma postcard is a real treasure. I visited last summer to see the gorgeous gardens. It's a great Toronto landmark!

Hi!
ReplyDeleteI love your cards. I think the "frozen" one is talking about how during the war certain things like silk, rubber & tin needed to be used for the cause of war, rather than for civilian use.
Your dog is a cutie! I also have a "furry" baby, and no kids!
I love vintage cards...these are great! ♥
