Today I wanted to share with you our pup Emily. Emily is a 7 year old cocker spaniel, who as you will see is more than just a little bit spoiled! Emily came into our lives when she was just a little 8 week old ball of fur. I had just lost my first cocker spaniel, my beloved 10 year old Maggie, very unexpectedly, to cancer. I was devastated, and very depressed. One day three weeks later, hubby came home with a little furry surprise. Now, I would never recommend surprising anyone with a pet. But, hubby and I had already been talking about getting another dog (I really wanted another cocker spaniel, as they are so near and dear to my heart). Eventually. I just wasn't ready. And I told him not to surprise me.
Well, I am so glad that he did! Suddenly I had this active, playful little puppy to take care of, and to potty train. She helped heal my heart!!
One of Emily's favorite things to do is go camping with us! Hubby pulls her along in this little wagon, and believe me, we get the stares! Most people think we are pulling along a small child, you should see the looks on their faces when they discover that it's really a dog!
Don't let her serious face fool you, Emily is all about the fun!
Well, make that "all about the naps"! I think she has been in hibernation mode this winter! All she wants to do is sleep and eat!
Of course we still go for our daily walks, despite the freezing temperatures. All of that cold air really tires a little pup out!!
More camping fun! This is what goofy people like us do who don't have kids!
Emily loves nothing more than to sit in her favorite chair, and watch all of the comings and goings. She is quite the watchdog, and will bark at anything that moves! Anything! Neighbors, the mail man, birds, squirrels, and don't even get her started on the UPS man!!
One day a couple of years ago, there was a giant snapping turtle that made it's way into our back yard. Well, I think that mean and scary looking old turtle was actually afraid of Emily! Emily was barking her head off, and he just couldn't get away fast enough (well, fast enough for a turtle!).
(no turtles were harmed in the making of these photographs!)
All set for her photo shoot!
This was taken on our most recent camping trip last fall. Here we are trucking down the road in our motor home. This is Emily's favorite perch!
Playing shy and hard to get!
Emily loves spending time with us on the lake. While she is not too fond of swimming, she will dutifully make a lap or two with me around the boat, though she would much rather just take a spin around the lake!
I'm linking up with Debbie and Lucy, who are having a fun puppy linky party! Be sure to join in on all of the excitement!
OH she is adorable, lucky you! My dog Heidi we adopted from a Humane Society the same day we had to have our other German Shepard put to sleep. I had to go to Pet Smart for some special carpet cleaner..accidents from my sick pup. Walked in the front door and their she was in the entrance up for adoption....she went home with me crying all the way. like you it was not what I had planned but she helped us heal.
ReplyDeleteEmily is so sweet. I had a cocker years ago. He was an older rescue and was supposed to be ok. He had heart worms and at his age, we put him down. I love cockers. They are so much fun and are so huggable. We had Augie a year. He slept with me and he snored. He was blind in one eye and sometime, he had had his ribs kicked in. But all the pain and suffering he had gone through didn't make him mean at all. He was the most loving dog. We gave him one good year. I so wish we would have had more.
ReplyDeleteBut then to heal from Augie, we got Max. She was such a delight. She was a small shepherd and so good with all the kids.
I love all your Emily photos. Dogs count as kids, too.
Hugs- Tete
What a sweet post! I haven't met too many dogs with my name - ha! She looks like she gets plenty of love from her parents. :)
ReplyDeleteEmily has the most adorable looking sweet and innocent face. She looks like a real hoot, her and that turtle cracked me up. Thanks for sharing her, very special indeed.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! She is so adorable Donna! She is quite the model and I love the turtle pics! My kids(furry ones) hate the UPS man too...I know as soon as he hits my street, and when he drives back by..Love your Emily, and I wouldn't look at you weird with her in the wagon, just think how well loved she is:)
ReplyDeleteAwww, Emily is precious!! I LOVE the picture of her and "Daddy" with Yogi Bear!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteMy simon says hi to your darling emily!!!
ReplyDeleteHe'd love to meet her at a doggy park!!
she is super cute, i just love cocker spaniels! that is really too funny with her and your hubby in that cut out picture with their heads. lol!
ReplyDeleteI had a cocker spaniel years ago, his name was Joey so sweet he was. Emily is adorable love the pictures of her!
ReplyDeleteOh she and Henry would have such fun together. Henry is not a swimmer either which is odd for a spaniel huh? She has the sweetest face. So glad she came along to help you heal with losing your Maggie.
ReplyDeleteDonna- She is so darned cute. My father always had cockers and one was black and one was gold...He called them Pete and Sandy. I do think it it comical that she rides in the child carrier...my daughter's friend had a CAT stroller and I thought that was funny too.
ReplyDeleteGlad you can take your baby camping with you...and we have been to Indian River., MI scoping out the campground. It looks pretty nice! Hugs- Diana
So funny...yours is the third dog post I've read today and I did one too...not knowing about the linky party! I'll look them up! Your Emily is so pretty and likes to do many of the same things our dog does. He, too, loves our pontoon boat and all we have to do is say "boat" to get him barking! My little guy is having health problems (is 11 yrs old)and we lost our Yorkie in Septmeber. I haven't been ready to get another but Scoobie is so lonely. Seeing you get another, makes me think about it...Love our pups, huh??
ReplyDeleteOh so cute! We got a beauuiful cocker spaniel, Mattie, who is now 10 months old. She has a step brother, Finn, who is half cocker and half wheaton terrier. Our Mattie is the same coloring as yours-we are having so much fun too! Claire
ReplyDeleteMiss Emily steals my heart!!!!
ReplyDeleteXO
she is so cute I want to smush her and give her kisses! We just took a stroll at the mall and the pet store had cocker pups, yep we had to hold one~
ReplyDeleteOh, she is so adorable and unconditional I'll wager. I want a puppy....Not with old cats though.
ReplyDeleteKeep Well, Chris
Emily is so cute! I love the photo posing with your husband in the cut-out board, and chasing the turtle!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh what a doll! so cute! I love the first picture and the one of them in the cutout, so cute! My fiance had a cocker spaniel when he was a little boy and would love to get another one.. I am more of a cat person but really want to get a dog one day once the right one comes along.
ReplyDeleteI agree with not rushing into getting another animal right away but sometimes things happen for a reason and this seems to be a gift sent from your first spaniel to help you through.
What a cutie...just makes you want to cuddle! ♥
ReplyDeleteI Love Emily!
ReplyDeleteShe is Adorable! What would we do without our Sweet Furry Friends!Your Husband Sounds very Sweet!
Happy Wednesday!
