Bonjour Mes Amis!
Today I thought I'd share with you this petite trunk which I decoupaged with spring time blooms.
When we were in Savannah, I found the wooden trunk at Hobby Lobby, and instantly fell in love with it. The color was perfect, a nice antiquey aqua. And I thought the aged brass and leather trim was super cool, too!
When I first purchased it, I really didn't know what I would do with it. Initially I thought of maybe just adding a tag, but you know me, I love to embellish! And since I was wanting to work on a crafty project while we were on our motor home trip, I thought this would be the perfect blank canvas.
Then one thing lead to another, and I decided to decoupage it!
I happened to have pretty scrapbook paper that I brought along, so I cut out the lovely floral and butterfly motifs.
Then the fun began!
I didn't want to totally cover the trunk, as I wanted the wonderful antiqued aqua to still be visible.
So I really tried to use a bit of restraint:)
Just looking at these pretty blossoms gives me spring fever!
You can't see it in the photos, but I added a bit of glitter to the butterflies, to give their wings a gossamer appearance.
I didn't want to use regular glitter that would shed all over the place, so I just mixed a small amount of clear iridescent glitter glue (I love "Stickles" brand!) to the Mod Podge.
As a fun little surprise, I even added the decorative paper and a butterfly to the inside!
Here is a shot of the back.
You know how much I love tags, so I just had to add one to the trunk.
I used the same scrapbook paper to fashion my tag, stamped it with a pretty crown, added a tiny rhinestone for a bit of bling ('cause you know how much I love bling!!)
and then stamped the word "bonjour", to give it a bit of a French accentt!
Here is one last look.
Thanks so much for visiting today! I hope this inspires you to create a little bit of spring in your house!!

I just love your newest creation, Donna! I especially love the tag! You should consider making wall art prints like your tag. They would be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou sure look pretty and slim in the picture where you're sitting down. Was it taken in Savannah?
Keep on creating!

Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing and this trunk is gorgeous. I LOVE it and all the details you added. The antiqued aqua makes it look like a vintage treasure.
The tag is the perfect finishing touch!!
The work involved cutting all the trims is a labor of love. The perfect keepsake trunk.
Your creativity never ends.
Have a nice weekend!!
Hugs, CM
This trunk is so cute, Donna! It's so YOU and gives us all a boost for spring when we look at it. Great job. I'm sorry for not visiting lately - I haven't been on blogger for a month! I promise to be better this spring. I think I lost some mojo while buried under all the snow we got here, but I'm coming back to blogs for some spring inspiration. Glad to hear you had a great trip to Savannah! xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour chest is darling, and it does give you a little Spring fever. Have a great day! Jo
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable and very practical too.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love decoupage.
I am working on a pink trunk/blanket chest as we speak.
It has wonderful pink chippy paint on the outside.... but the inside needs work. It has original pink floral paper inside but it's torn and coming apart. I decided to decoupage it.... keeping as much of the orig paper in tact and adding cut out roses from vintage wallpaper I have in my stash. I hope it comes out as pretty as yours. Thank you for inspiring me.
Have a lovely weekend.
Cheers.
Elizabeth
Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteThis is so clever. I too love the patina on this piece and your scrapbook paper is so pretty for decals. Have a great week.
Kris
I love that! Oh, I want one now to play with...I just grab things like up whenever I run across them.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna.....Isn't it great that spring is just around the corner?!!! We still have quite a lot of snow in our yard, but it's gradually melting!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your little trunk! Looks perfect in every way!
Love, Karen
