A few months ago I finally got around to giving our coffee table and matching end table a face lift. So I've been meaning to share it with you and finally got around to snapping some photos today!
We bought these when we got married, over 14 years ago, and while I still loved their clean lines, they just really didn't go with our room anymore. Especially since hubby now finally appreciates painted furniture!
He's always been all about the wood! Wood tones everywhere! You will see what I mean in a second!!
The tables are very well made, so I didn't want to just get rid of them. They are solid wood and made by Broyhill. I knew that some creamy white paint would totally change their look and feel!
See what I mean about lots of wood? I am not a fan of the wood walls in the least (that is hubby's taste), but I guess a girl's gotta pick her battles, right?!
I keep telling him that our next home will have beadboard. Lots of white beadboard!!
Notice Katie on the couch? As soon as I was about to have my little "photo shoot", she decided she wanted to get in on the fun, and promptly hopped on the couch!
Of course I forgot to take before shots of the tables, but you can get a peek at what they used to look like in the photo below.
I used a nice creamy white by Behr, the same color we used on our dining table and chairs.
I'm so happy with how they turned out!
What a pretty puppy!
I used several coats of paint, let cure for a few days, then distressed just a bit around the edges.
Then I used a clear satin sealer for protection. And since I loved the oil rubbed bronze drawer handles, I left them as is. I think they make such a nice contrast to the creamy white.
I'm amazed at how a few coats of paint totally transformed their look and feel!
Of course, one thing leads to another, so I had to paint the basket that I keep magazines in, too!
I just gave it a quick coat of creamy white spray paint, to give it more of a whitewashed feel.
So now I want to repaint our other end table!
This is it, on the other side of the couch. It belonged to my mom, and she gave it to me years ago.
I eventually want to replace the wicker rocker (which will go back to its original home in our bedroom).
I do love it, but it is oh so uncomfortable to sit in! I adore chairs with lots of tufted buttons on the back, so that will be the look I go for.
Here's a better look, without the tablecloth. Since the top is very shiny, I'll use a deglosser first, and paint it the same creamy color.
I can hardly wait to start!
Here is one last look.
Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you have a great day!
I love the new look. Your hubby must be related to mine...but once I gave the top of our coffee table one coat of white paint, he loved it. Need to get that finished!
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I noticed it that you placed the side with the drawers toward the couch...I would have placed them out to see. But...the way you have them lets you use them from the couch when you are sitting down. Making me thing I have been doing it wrong now all my life!
You need one of those lounging chairs where your mom's old wicker one is! With those windows and all the light, it would be a great place to read and you would be really comfy watching tv.
How are you on the brick in the fireplace? I see it painted and glittered in the future. LOL
You totally transformed the look of your furniture pieces with paint. Just gorgeous! I keep meaning to ask, did you decide to take your gorgeous home off the market? Staying put in this snowy state? Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteLove the tables and the painted version is perfect. It looks awesome and I love that little Paris picture. Cute.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
What a transformation! Of course I am with you and agree on the pretty white furniture. Enjoy your "new" tables!

Donna, Those table turned out so nice. I really like them. Doesn't it make a difference in the way the room looks.? Your doggie is cute. I bet she's well behaved too. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteOh Donna, I love them - they look so good. What is it with men not wanting to paint wood furniture? They are all that way. I like the color so much better.
ReplyDeleteThat Katie, she loves to get her picture taken. Such a little sweet heart. Hugs to her.
Have a great rest of the week.

Hi Donna, WOW your tables look amazing. I love how they turned out and just brightened up your whole room. You did a gorgeous job. I have to say, your tables are very similar to mine in our family room which I also painted white. LJ doesn't say a thing anymore about painting dark furniture. LOL I guess he figures, what's the use, I'll do it anyway!!
ReplyDeleteThe round table is a treasure and the Paris pic on the easel is beautiful.
Sweet Katie looks so cute on the sofa.
Thanks for sharing your redesign. Love it!
Hugs
The white makeover looks wonderful Donna! It does make a difference in the room. I had to laugh about your hubby loving wood. My hubby also prefers wood and doesn't like my painted furniture but he puts up with it all. :) You're right about choosing the battles. Good luck with the next paint job - I'm sure your Mom's table will turn out great.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks fantastic Donna, the painted furniture just transforms the room cant wait to see the table when you have finished it !

Isn't it amazing how the color of the tables changes the feel of the sofa and chair? It brings out the cottage feel in the room. With the white table cloth on your Mom's table you get a good sense of how it will look in the room when you paint that table, too!! It looks so nice in your room with the fresh white paint, Donna. Your little girl looks sweet on the sofa...lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Love it!

Donna, I definitely prefer the white tables! You're right about having too much wood. I guess men like their man cave lodge style! I really love your precious Katie!Au revoir!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I see you have that beautiful 3 tier wooden bowl. I remember you said that you painted it too. I just love it!
