Happy Friday, everyone!
For those of you living in a cold climate like me, and who were on the receiving end of the "Blizzard of '11" (also like me!), I hope that you have fared well this week! After my stressful day yesterday fighting with the snow blower, and our furnace going out an needing repair, I thought what better way to relieve that stress than to break out the glitter!
So I thought I would share with you today the Valentine's Day cards that I created and will be sending out to friends. With all due respect to Hallmark, I think that there's nothing better than making (and receiving!) a hand crafted card!!
I made these from both pre-made blank cards, as well as heavy cardstock that had a pretty raised damask pattern.
Paper doilies, a generous dusting of glitter (of course!), rhinestones, and wonderfully crinkly seam binding add to the romance!! I also used bits of vintage sheet music on some of the cards. I just love the sheet music, and I guess you could say it has become one of my trademarks!
I printed out the "be my valentine" on the computer, then cut out and applied with dimensional adhesive squares. All of the pretty images that I used came from a book. I know, you may be upset that I cut a book apart, but I have a small stash of books that I keep specifically for crafting projects!! Don't worry, I would never cut apart any books of value!! You can click on any of the photos to get a closer look!
For this card, I resisted the urge to add the pink seam binding, as it is going to my sweetheart hubby (shhhh, don't tell!). Can you guess what I used to create it? The negative that was left behind from a sheet of heart stickers! Yes, I kept it, as I knew that it had future crafting potential!! All I did was stick it to a page from a vintage French book. I then glittered some of the hearts, then mounted it to my red card. I also cut out two hearts from the red cardstock, and two smaller hearts from the vintage French book. I added some more glitter, then applied them with the dimensional foam squares, and viola, a fun and easy card!
So now I feel much better after working with all of that glitter! And my latest copy of Romantic Homes magazine just arrived in the mail this morning, so it is going to be a much better day!
Have a great weekend, and stay warm and cozy!!
Hi Donna!

Suzann xoxox
Your cards are divine. There's nothing better than glitter to beat those winter blues!!
ReplyDeleteWhat could be better than receiving a beuatiful handmade card for Valentine's Day?! They turned out beautiful, Donna! I especially love the one with all the little glittered hearts that you made for your hubby!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you!
xoxo,
Jo :)
p.s. thanks for your sweet comment, Donna... i never getting tired of hearing that... who would?! lol ;-)
Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI love your fabulous Valentine cards.....so pretty and I agree....there's nothing better than breaking out the glitter! Makes everything better.
hugs
Sissie
Those are beautiful, Donna. He is going to LOVE that card..and what a great idea to save the housing from around the stickers. Do you know I worked at a label company one time and if we called ANYTHING stickers (rather than labels) we were given "points"...and not good ones either. lol I think I had a few when I first started.
ReplyDeleteDo you know offhand what that font is that you used for the Be My Valentine banners? I think that is something Little Lulu would love. She is really creative and loves words and working on the computer. I have been using Comic Sans Serif (I think that's what it is) and she likes that real well.
It is cold here..freezing...and I get out at 9pm (will get home about (9:30 or so). Mindy (youngest d/BabyE) came up from Milwaukee a couple of days early and Tara dropped the 3 little girls off at the house so it will be a very busy morning tomorrow...No rest for the wicked, as they say!
Have a great night. Does your hubby get home tonight or tomorrow? Hugs- Diana
Oh my gosh, Donna--I have been glittering and gluing and Valentine-ing all day long just like you!!! LOL I LOVE your creations...Those hearts look like fresh-baked cookies--geez, they're adorable!! I've got some of my hearts posted now...BUT, my favorite thing will be posted on Monday if I get good pics...I'm hoping!!!
ReplyDeleteI just love all your glittery goodness!!!
XO
Lovely cards!
ReplyDeleteWow again Donna! Your cards are so romantic and special. I love how you used the negative of the stickers for the last card--it's brilliant I tell you-love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards Donna!
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
Donna,
ReplyDeleteThese cards are just beautiful! All you need is glitter to chase those snow blues away! I did some glittering myself today and it helps. :)
I love your last card to hubby - how clever & thrifty to use the reverse of the heart stickers & they look perfect against the vintage book page.
Stay warm,
Susan
