It's another blustery, snow covered day here at the Chateau! What better day than to show you this beachy candle that I created! One of my favorite supporters of my Etsy shop (who also happens to be a friend!) commissioned me to create for her a "Coastal Christmas" jar candle. For someone who has always lived in a cold climate, I must admit that the idea of a coastal Christmas is a relatively new idea for me!
Of course, for those of you who dwell in warm climates, this is nothing new to you! So, in order to get some inspiration for this piece, I decided to Google "coastal Christmas", and this is what I came up with:
hahahahah!! Not quite the look I was going for!
I recalled seeing a beautiful copy of vintage French Christmas sheet music over at The Graphics Fairy, which is my favorite place to find gorgeous images. If you have never visited, be sure to check it out! Karen never disappoints, and shares some beautiful images with us daily!
Aaaaah! This is more of what I had in mind! I added this pretty sand dollar from a piece of scrapbooking paper that I had purchased in Maui last winter. I wish that I had gotten more of this paper, as I've never seen any like it here!
I t's a bit hard to see here, but I also added some really neat paper (from the same Maui shop) that looks like woven grass cloth. In person, it is amazingly realistic!
Of course I had to glitter the entire candle, so it will look magical when lit!
I just looked down at my keyboard as I was typing this, and I noticed glitter all over the keyboard. Hmmmm...........now how did that happen??!!

And to further tie in the coastal and Christmas themes, I added a couple of jingle bells, that I painted an antique bronze tone and applied a bit of glitter to, as well as a pretty shell that I picked up on one of our trips. I used my handy dandy dremil tool to drill a hole in the shell, then added some glitter and hung from a gold cord. Oh, I added some of my favorite taupe seembinding which I crinkled, and made a generous bow and hung the bells on the ends.
I'm really happy with how it turned out! I think I'm getting the hang of this "Coastal Christmas" thing!

My beach bathroom would LOVE that candle. Fabulous idea. I used the same graphics fairy sheet music to cut out snowflakes for our bedroom. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteHi Donna,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to apologize for not having sent you your lovely bag yet that you won quite a while ago. Unfortunately, the busy Christmas poinsettia season come on like a freight train and.....I still have it waiting here for you.
Today the Big Guy and I are leaving AGAIN for China so I will hand it over to our secretary and ask her to get it in the mail for you. Hopefully she is more dependable at getting that kind of stuff done than I am!
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Your coastal candle creation turned out lovely.
ReplyDeleteI actually have Christmas cards with a barefoot Santa on the beach -- originals that a friend here sells every Christmas.
Love those handpainted ornaments your neighbor made. I so wanted a tree this year with only handmade ornaments but haven't even had the time to get started yet so the tree is bare so far except for lights. But hey, there's still time, right :/
Stay warm and have a great week. Tammy
Oh this is GORGEOUS!!!! Pure beauty and wonderful all year 'round!!!
ReplyDeleteXO

Soooo nice!!! What a great idea. And I'm loving that Peggy Cove lighthouse ornament too... will include that in my "Coastal News" weekend post.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love how it all works together... Isn't that sheet music paper amazing? Love!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty candle! I have never done the coastal theme, but it sure is pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs~
This is really pretty. I live in Central Florida and it will be 25 degrees here tonight. Yikes! You know there's a cold front when we are below freezing!
ReplyDeleteThat's really pretty. The best thing is it can be used year round.
ReplyDeleteOh...I think I know just whose house that is going to....Does her name start with D? Don't you just love our friend D? She is gonna LOVE this candle...and it is going to go perfectly with what she has in her house already.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you couldn't take that paper that you got in Maui and take it to the copier store and just copy a few sheets of it? It would be a different weight probably but I think you could still use it for just about anything.
Glad you just had glitter on your keyboard and not on the rest of you...you know how the hubster hates it when he wakes up beside you covered with the glitter you have shed in bed.
(a rhyme everytime is my new motto)..bwhahahaha. xxoo Diana
LOVE IT! Came out awesome. And I gotta give Diana credit!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I wish I had one of these {sigh}...
ReplyDeleteDonna, I love this!!!
