Another Chalkboard Project

Hello ladies, how is your Monday going?
Thought I would share with you one of my latest chalkboards.
You all know how I love mirrors. Well, this actually started out as a mirror, and I fully intended on keeping it a mirror!  I found her at a thrift shop (I know, in my excitement, I neglected to take a "before" shot!).  Anyway, the mirror was not removable, so after I painted it, I used a razor blade to remove the paint which had inevitably gotten onto the mirror.  Well, I ended up scratching the mirror!  It was a tiny scratch, but since I was putting this in my Etsy shop, it had to be perfect!  So, I managed to remove the mirror, and had hubby cut a piece of masonite, which I then painted with chalkboard paint.  Guess it's always a good thing to have a Plan B on hand!!

I love these pretty wooden appliques!  You can find them at Hobby Lobby or Michael's.  I used a bit of epoxy to adhere it.

I painted it a pretty light blue, followed by some distressing and glazing.  While it would've been nice to have remained a mirror, I think it's pretty as a chalkboard, too!
Have a great night, and remember:
Always have a plan b!!

  5. Donna, You have an addiction. LOL
Did I tell you I have a glue phobia, too? I only use my hot glue gun and elmer's. I can do glue stix.
But nothing else. No super glue. No apoxies.
I feel much better after that confession.
    Hugs- Tete

  10. This looks great!
FYI...you can also get those lovely curlicue decorative details at most home improvement centers (Home Depot, various lumber places) and they are usually a much better price there than Michael's (at least in Canada)..at a sale I once got a whole bag of assorted sizes for about a dollar at the Windosor lumber store here....just a thought...

  11. Love the chalkboard. I think this came out wonderful. I write too big else I would buy this one. I need a huge chalkboard because of how large I write.
